OPPO surprised the market with some cutting-edge technologies exclusive to the smartphone segment. Fast charging technologies, for example, and the recently announced OPPO X 2021 with sliding screen. Now, ready to hit the market in 2021 with the OPPO Find X3 series, it’s the full-path color management system.

Learn more about this new form of more authentic, accurate and customizable color reproduction.

OPPO Full-path - A new, more authentic color reproduction

OPPO announced today that the official launch of the Full-path color management system will come with the OPPO Find X3 series in 2021. OPPO's Full-path color management system is the first Android color management system compatible with all DCI-P3 gamut and 10-bit color depth for capture, storage and display. In this way, it is possible to offer a fantastic visual experience thanks to its accurate and authentic color reproduction.

Color inspires creativity and influences our perception of reality. That's why we've refined all elements of the color management system to add bright, high-quality images to more aspects of everyday life.

Based on the exceptional color performance of Find X2 Pro, the new Full-path color management system has been meticulously developed to be compatible with 10-bit image capture and HEIF format. Our goal is to offer our users a systematic and flawless color experience that frees content creators' desire to explore, capture and express themselves at their best.

The full-path color management system

Keeping in mind that future trends lie in a wide color gamut and high color depth, OPPO's R&D engineering team has done an amazing job in color reproduction by improving the underlying system and hardware .

The system is therefore made up of an integral solution that covers all stages from image acquisition to calculation, encoding, storage, decoding and finally, display, offering compatibility with HEIF images with a color depth of 10 bit and a wide Gamma of colors P3.

The full-path color management system uses a more complex algorithm and hardware to record color during capture. Then there's distortion correction, multi-frame noise reduction and even extreme perceptual super resolution. In addition, OPPO will be compatible with image sensors with HDR digital superposition (DOL) mode.

The DOL-HDR technology allows, in particular, to synthesize different exposure conditions in an image. In this way, bright colors are captured even when taking pictures against backlight.

The OPPO screen calibration procedure then achieves a professional color accuracy, at the level of a digital film, of approximately 0.4 JNCD, thus providing a systematically accurate display on the screen. On the other hand, OPPO's patented algorithm ensures color gamut compatibility by adjusting the DCI-P3 with the D65 white point in the center of the color space.

The HEIF format is fully compatible with a wide range of multimedia content

Compared to 8-bit depth, 10-bit color depth smooths out artificial visual characteristics caused by color gaps. 10-bit color depth enhances color gradation to increase the quality of visual content during creation and post-editing.

However, with a size of only about 50% of a JPEG image, the HEIF format is fully compatible with a wide range of multimedia content. Namely with static images, Exif, in-depth information and dynamic videos, which allow users to offer greater creative freedom.

It should also be noted that the HEIF format can be further developed to ensure compatibility with a high color depth.

Custom color settings on your smartphone: color correction solution in the future of images

At the recently celebrated OPPO INNO DAY 2020, OPPO founder and CEO Tony Chen said:

We believe in the idea of "Technology for Humanity, Kindness to the World". OPPO uses technology to provide its users with the power to capture the beauty around them and unleash their imagination of the future, thus allowing everyone to get the best out of their life.

This philosophy is manifested in OPPO's research and development process for color management. OPPO's Full-Path Color Management System is a core function at the system level, as well as being intelligent. Initially, OPPO tried to achieve a uniform pattern for all screens, presenting colors in the same way to ensure accuracy and fidelity; now, we want to go further to meet the user's needs when it comes to customization.

The Full-path color management system will then be available for the first time in OPPO's Find X3 series, which will launch in 2021.

Through its authentic, precise and personalized color management, OPPO aims to offer users an intuitive way to see the world and capture life in its most colorful form.
