Waiting for the new Xiaomi flagship that already promises to be something revolutionary, new revelations arrive. According to a famous Chinese leaker, the Xiaomi Mi 11’s screen uses ‘hole punch’ technology and is curved. What does all this mean and why is it a screen never seen before?
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi this time went to great lengths to keep the details of its new flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 11. Before its launch there is a lot of speculation as to what it might look like, and the Chinese portal Gizchina that mentions Digital Chat Station is one of the most famous when it comes to Chinese technology.
This time, the leaker has released the information that the Mi 11 will have a screen piercer with curvature on all four edges.
The portal claims that the screen of the Mi 11 will have the extension four curved edges, something that had never been seen in a file smartphone. Curves are used in high-end cell phones to achieve a visual appearance or to enter more information in a small size. It’s when the screen reaches the edge and turns into some sort of quick access panel, which we see in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Or there is also a fingerprint sensor, like in the Huawei P30 Pro.
So far manufacturers have managed to pull out the two side edges of their devices, but it seems that Xiaomi has gone further and curved the screen up and down as well, which is completely new.
Piercer means perforated screen and is a fairly common technology in the market of smartphone. Most of them use a card, called notch or notch in Spanish, which hangs from the top edge of the device to accommodate the front camera and facial recognition sensors.
Released with the iPhone a few years ago, the card has become a standard for smartphone and world manufacturers have implemented it in many generations: Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor and others. But now the trend is changing: instead of the top edge extension taking up a lot of screen space, manufacturers are implementing the piercer. They only leave a round in the corner or center of the top for the camera while the screen itself stretches across the surface.
According to previous Tech Dama leaks, the Mi 11 is expected to have even more advanced technology: a full screen with the front camera underneath, like touch sensors.
Xiaomi has not yet revealed when it will launch the Mi 11, but it is estimated that there is not much to wait and that it will be in January or February 2021.
