And in addition to the professionalization of the sector linked to the theme of the congress, Madrid Convention Bureau also considers the professionalization of the MICE sector of the city, with training and updating actions, etc. as a way to influence the future of the professionals of its member companies.
Environmental heritage is another of the pillars to consider, trying to ensure that each congress can adhere as much as possible to the Sustainable Development Goals with programs of reuse, recycling, reduction of consumption, etc.
To promote this philosophy of positive impact on its congresses, since the end of last year the Madrid convention bureau has included in its organization chart the figure of the Legacy Congress Manager with its own department for the management of legacy projects. Perhaps the first convention bureau that has a profile that deals with analyzing the congress itself, to which it can contribute to the city, as well as connecting local assets with the organizing association. In this figure, the entire application and support process for congresses has been unified, taking care of it from design to execution.
The Legacy ESTRO 2021 project: a congress designed to improve medicine, the sick and the city
If a few days ago we brought you the example of hereditary actions that would have been developed on the occasion of the 50th Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Stomatological and Aesthetic Prosthetics (SEPES), the arrival of the congress of the European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO ), in August next year, is another example of the joint work of the medical society, its local partner SEOR and the convention bureau. All collaborate in the design of dissemination and training actions for citizens, which will also begin a year before the Madrid congress. A project that seeks a tangible impact in different areas: the scientific community, public administration and civil society to help patients benefit from technological and scientific advances, in line with ESTRO’s vision: “Optimal health for all, together” .
Among these actions, a dissemination website on cancer radiotherapy, treatments, experiences, advice and healthy lifestyle habits was launched. It also seeks to give visibility to the specialty and radiation treatments by supporting the SEOR (Spanish Society of Oncological Radiotherapy) in the proclamation of the Oncological Radiation Day in Spain on 7 November. coinciding with Marie Curie’s date of birth. The scientist not only discovered radium, but has already used radiation to treat cancer patients and pioneered the development of oncological radiotherapy. An opportunity to make the value of radiotherapy in cancer treatment visible to the general population and health professionals in particular.
