A VERZUZ The battle between A Tribe Called Quest and OutKast may be on the way, according to virtual series co-founder Swizz Beatz.
Speaking with DJ Kid Capri on Instagram Live, the super producer let slip that he and the VERZUZ worked to bring the two iconic groups together for the series.
“We have A Tribe Called Quest and OutKast. [It’s] pending, “Swizz said.” I shouldn’t even have said that, I could have just screwed it up, “he added, realizing that maybe he shouldn’t have disclosed the news yet.
Then he said, “Q-Tip is my brother, but that man. Andre 3000, but that man. “
VERZUZ is the popular entertainment series that pits producers, songwriters and artists against each other in a rap battle style format on Instagram Live and Apple Music.
Contestants take turns playing a song from a list of 20 from their discography as fans, friends, and other artists watch. A winner is subsequently decided by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
Starting in March, after Timbaland and Swizz Beatz challenged each other, the artists who have taken part so far have included: T-Pain, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Brandy, Monica, Rick Ross, DMX, Snoop Dogg and many others.
The second season of VERZUZ will take place at the end of this month: the first battle will see TI take on Jeezy.
The pairing comes after TI initially challenged 50 Cent to a VERZUZ battle, which was later shot down by rapper G-Unit.
“For your birthday, I offer you a challenge, sir,” TI told 50 Cent in an Instagram video. “Get your ass up with 20 of your records, sit in front of me and get some work done, man.”
50 jokingly responded to the proposal, referencing Chris Tucker Smokey’s character from the film Friday, writing, “Hey, someone passed TI the weed that smokey gave on Friday. LOL.”
Meanwhile, OutKast shared the remix of Zack de la Rocha’s “BOB (” Bombs Over Baghdad) “, which is featured in the 20th anniversary reissue of their fourth” Stankonia “.
