Dimitri Oberlin has no longer had a contract with FC Basel since the end of the year. The 23-year-old forward and the Basel club have “mutually agreed” to terminate the contract, the FCB wrote in a statement.
Oberlin joined the Baslers on loan from Salzburg in 2017 but was soon no longer happy. The Cameroonian-born Swiss then made commitments on loan at Empoli and Belgian club Zulte Waregem before returning to Basel in summer 2020. Since his return, Oberlin has not had enough regular strength.
“I’ve been through ups and downs in Basel and now I want to take this opportunity to play regularly for a new club and enjoy football,” said Oberlin. The Basel contract would expire in the summer of 2022.
