Munich – The scenery is somewhat reminiscent of Christmas, even if it happened in the height of summer. The light enters Luz Stadium it was off, but four figures could be seen in the distance in the central circle of the Lisbon arena. They sat surrounded by glittering confetti. Nothing could be heard, but this image still said more than a thousand words. Joshua Kimmich, David Alaba, Serge Gnabry and Hansi Flick tacitly enjoyed Bayern’s triple win. For the Bayern coach “one of my personal moments in 2020”.

Flick fondly remembers that magical night, which makes sense, because it capped off its success story after less than a year in office. However, the 55-year-old is also taking the year that is drawing to a close – and so terribly grueling – as an opportunity for a more comprehensive recap. In club magazine 51 he looks at what has been achieved so far – but also says: “If I’m not always ready for the extra parameter, I have no place in Bavaria.”

Flick’s first match against Dortmund: courageous formation and 4-0 victory

These words are absolutely not meant to be threatening, Flick is satisfied with his professionals, he has no “worries” for a lack of motivation in the post-triple season. But he wants to express that Bayern “don’t need players who jump as high as they have to jump”. The will to subordinate everything to success every day is part of him DNA of this club. He lives it – not for nothing Karl-Heinz Rummenigge praises him: “I would call this style we play today the style of Bayern”. He had suffered a little over the past few years, but has been back since Flick took office.

“Knowing exactly where you are” is what professionals value about their coach. That’s what Thomas Müller says, who described Flick as brave from day one, still as an interim trainer. Flick also remembers his first Bundesliga match, in which he had to deliver against BVB. He bet on an offensive formation – and when his players asked if it was possible, he replied: “Yes, we can!” The match ended 4-0.

FC Bayern under flick: Never adapt to the opponent, always do your thing

Flick knows what he wants, for him “this question must be asked Play it safe to go, actually never asked “. Müller says: “he never stops thinking outside the box”. The focus is always on “the point of view that Bayern need a clear DNA”. Flick describes them with the words: “Possession the ball, be dominant, attack the goals”. When he was a player, he used to say: “The important thing is to win! FC Bayern have always defined themselves through success, but today how you win is part of it.” Bayern does not adapt to the opponent under Flick, but it does its thing.

Even if Flick says football is allowed “never be dogmatic“, He has clear ideas, for which he is responsible internally. It’s considered a controversial spirit, but the people at the top of Säbener Straße say: this is exactly why he went from interim coach to head coach and should stay a long time. He has not yet had a real crisis to moderate, even though he knows “that in sport you grow up in difficult times”.

If one arrives in 2021, he would be prepared. He has the confidence of the bosses. “Hansi is a gift for FC Bayern”Rummenigge says. But this really fits Christmas. – Hanna Raif
