Warner Bros has decided to show all of its upcoming films simultaneously on the big screen and online, increasing tensions between Hollywood studios and movie theaters in the United States.

With the decision, the fourth of the science fiction films Dune and Matrix will be screened on the HBO Max platform with theaters.

In general, films could be watched on Internet platforms after only being shown in theaters for months.

However, due to the closure of many movie theaters due to the coronavirus outbreak, studio revenues have dropped significantly.

Warner Bros then announced that all films released in 2021 will screen on HBO Max.

Upcoming Warner Bros movies are expected to include Godzilla vs Kong, Mortal Kombat, and The Suicide Squad.

Warner Bros previously announced that the high-budget Christmas movie Wonder Woman 1984 will also screen on HBO Max and theaters.

WarnerMedia Studios president Ann Sarnoff said they had to find “creative solutions” because of the outbreak and said “Nobody wants movies to come back to the big screen like we do.”

US cinema chain AMC previously banned all of Universal’s films after the company said it would show its films on the Internet and in theaters on the same day.

The two companies therefore accepted and it was decided to show the films on digital platforms 17 days after their screening in theaters.
