Group F: BVB draw enough against Lazio
Borussia Dortmund (with Roman Bürki and Manuel Akanji) are in the second round of the “premier class”. Lucien Favre’s side played 1-1 at home to Lazio Roma without the injured Erling Haaland. BVB took the lead after a good combination in the 44th minute of Raphaël Guerreiro. Lazio equaled by Ciro Immobile after a controversial penalty decision in the 67th minute. The only downside was the injury to defense boss Mats Hummels, who had to leave the pitch in the 90th minute.
In the second match of the group, Bruges Zenit beat St. Petersburg 3-0. The Belgians now have 7 points in account and manage to overtake the Italians with a victory in the last match of the group against Lazio Roma (9 points). Zenit no longer has the possibility of wintering in Europe.
Group G: Barça and Juve with mandatory victories
FC Barcelona are still in great shape. After two 4-0 wins last week against Dynamo Kiev and Osasuna, the Catalans convinced again on Wednesday night. In the 3-0 win at Ferencvaros in Budapest, Antoine Griezmann, Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembélé ensured clear conditions until the 28th minute, after which it was time to manage the results. With the victory, Barcelona remain impeccably at the top of Group G.
Juventus Turin also celebrated an undisputed victory. At home to Dynamo Kiev, the Italians won 3-0. The constant source of danger in Juve’s game was Cristiano Ronaldo, but he failed either by the edge of the goal or by Kiev goalkeeper Georgiy Buschchan. In the 57th minute he still scored his 132nd Champions League goal.
The match was led by French referee Stéphanie Frappart, who was the first woman to play in the Champions League. On the last day of competition, Juve and Barcelona are among them the winners of the group. Both Kiev and Ferencvaros still have a chance to qualify for the Europa League.
Group E: A Chelsea definitely winner of the group
Chelsea and Sevilla FC were already in the round of 16 before matchday five. In the second direct duel, the final decision was pending: group victory. After the goalless first leg, Chelsea won 4-0 away to Seville. The man of the game for the Londoners was Olivier Giroud. The French international was the only player to score four times.
Already in the early evening, the two outsiders of the still winless group met. The Krasnodar Russians secured a 1-0 home win against Stade Rennes and progressed to the Europa League knockout stage already in third place in the group.
