Plastic doctor Dragoş Stănescu died on Friday 20 November at the ATI Section of the “St. Pantelimon ”of Focşani. Dragoş Stănescu was 68 years old and was the head of the plastic surgery department of the Focşani Emergency Hospital, but in the past he also headed the public health directorate of Vrancea.
Although at the time of the doctor’s disappearance there were rumors that he had died of COVID 19, in his case things were much more complicated.
The doctor’s daughter-in-law told Libertatea reporters about the ordeal her father-in-law went through, after being denied hospitalization where he worked for a lifetime, having been redirected to Adjud, where he refused to go.
Two weeks before he died, the doctor sustained a hip fracture and had several broken ribs after falling on the steps during a medical checkup he had at the hospital.
In the COVID-19 test, Dragoş Stănescu tested positive. His medical colleagues told him they could not operate on him, because the Focsani hospital is not one of the COVID-19s, being headed to Adjud.
“He was proposed to be transferred to the COVID-19 hospital in Adjud. He refused and signed the refusal of medical treatment at his request, asking to be left at home,” the hospital director Codruţa Neagu explained to Libertatea. .
The doctor’s family believes the hospital can find a solution for the former colleague.
“He told me it wasn’t considered an emergency. That although he had a fever, he was coughing and besides, he was in terrible pain from the fall. I mean, he was in terrible pain with every breath. Not to mention that he was a man with diabetes. Parkinson’s, some active heart attacks and two stents. But it wasn’t an emergency yet, “the doctor’s daughter-in-law said.
Therefore, the doctor went home and waited two weeks to recover from COVID-19 so that he could have surgery later. But at home he was getting worse, suffering from severe pain from fractures and on November 16 he was taken back to the hospital.
“He had about two days in which his condition fluctuated, I’m talking about the oxygen saturation in his blood. He was then intubated and died the next day at the ATI. He was not an old man to be sent to the grave,” the said. Daughter-in-law of Dragoş Stănescu, with the regret of not having taken him to Bucharest, where he would have had a better chance of survival.
According to the journalists of Libertatea, the fracture of the neck of the femur appears on the last X-ray taken to the doctor during the second hospitalization.
