everything you need to know before you start watching the end of the anime

Warning: this note may include some spoilers for the anime and manga Shingeki no Kyojin.

The third season of Shingeki no Kyojin – Attack on Titan – ended with the scene of the Survey Corps leaving the walls and reaching the sea, one year after winning the Battle of Shinganshina against the Colossal Titan, the Armored Titan and the Titan. . Beast. They also made it to Grisha Jaeger’s basement, where they read the truth about the walls and that the outside world actually continued to exist as it always has.

While for Armin and company, finally being in front of the ocean was a cause for joy, Eren’s face was different. After absorbing his father’s memories, and learning the truth of the present world, the young man radically changed his way of thinking and pointed out that although he previously believed that freedom was behind the sea, he now knew that in reality there ‘were his enemies, who wanted to see all the inhabitants of the walls dead.

And it is precisely on this premise that the first chapters of the fourth season of the show will be based, the first chapter of which will open next Sunday, December 6 – dated Monday December 7 in Japan – and this is what you should remember before embarking on the new Adventures of Hajime Isayama’s Play.

The showdown of the Jaeger brothers

Zeke’s identity was revealed until Season 3 and we learned that Titan Beast’s bearer was actually the brother of Eren Jaeger, son of Grisha Jaeger and Dina Fritz, descendant of King Fritz.

In the final episodes of the Battle of Shinganshina we see the blonde telling her brother that “his father brainwashed him and he will save him again”. Zeke has had a difficult life and why he hates his father so much may be revealed. However, being on separate sides, we will likely see a duel between both brothers this season.

The new Colossal Titan

While we all remember the Beast Titan who destroyed the Corps of Exploration with its rocks, the confrontation between Eren, Armin and the Colossal Titan was just as fierce. The result of both clashes was to see Erwin and Armin die with serious injuries; like Bertholdt, who was captured.

Then Levi’s dilemma of who to save using the titan serum. Although he chose the Danchou first, he ultimately decided it was time for him to rest and save Armin, who became an unintelligent Titan, devoured Berholtd, and inherited his Colossal Titan power.

Although at first there were several questions about Levi’s decision, even from Armin himself who did not feel worthy of being chosen over Erwin, he will now have a leadership position and will have to work alongside Hange Zoe so that his intelligence continues to help the Corps of Exploration against new enemies. Moreover, with its new power it must become a powerful weapon of the inhabitants of the Walls.

Founding Titan + Royal Blood

At the end of season 2, we see that Eren manages to control the titans with a scream and it is until the end of the third episode that why is revealed. The protagonist was able to use this ability after touching the titan of Dina Fritz, first wife of Zeke’s father and mother, of royal blood; therefore the young man needs to get in touch with royal blood in order to use the powers of the Founding Titan.

The problem is that if someone of royal blood acquires this power, they surrender to the will of the first king and refuse to fight. Eren noticed this when he kissed Historia’s hand, but refused to reveal it so as not to endanger his friend. We will certainly see enough consequences of this decision in the new chapters.

Ymir’s curse

Ymir Fritz, the first person to gain power from the Titans, lived 13 years after acquiring them. His only power was divided among the Nine Titan Powers which have been passed down to the Eldian people “the people of Ymir” for 2000 years.

For this reason it is believed that all who inherit these powers only live another 13 years, which means that Eren, Armin, Reiner, Annie and Zeke have their numbered years, which are reduced in the fourth season which will have a timeskip about four years.

Enemies beyond the walls

For three seasons they fought against the Titans, but at the end of season 3 it is known that in reality the enemies of the inhabitants of the walls are humanity itself.

In the outside world they are seen as “the demons of the island”, since Ymir’s descendants are the only ones who can become Titans if they are injected with the titan serum or if they ingest it in another way, as we will see later. Grisha’s memories show how despised they are by a civilization, Hange knows everyone is likely to think like them.

The belief that freedom was beyond the walls, having wiped out all the Titans, completely crumbled with these revelations. Now they know who their real enemy is and despite being on the sea front, Eren knows that the real battle will just begin.
