After many years serving users, it’s time for Microsoft to pause Internet Explorer and bring it to a worthy conclusion. This browser, despite all the problems, has been a fundamental building block on the Internet.
The software giant seems to have a clear plan and this end is set and, for many, it will come too quickly. There is, however, an easy way to keep Internet Explorer for a bit longer. Here’s how to do it.
The announced end of Internet Explorer
Microsoft wants to kill Internet Explorer. This is a path of no return, but it will be done in a gradual and controlled way. The first step has already been done, as we revealed a few days ago, indicating the sites open to Edge, in a modification that was not requested.
For now, it only acts on a list of identified sites that the user does not control. This should be extended in the future, until all sites are forwarded to Edge, the new Microsoft browser that receives this legacy.
Keep this browser longer
For now, and it is not known whether it should remain so for very long, users have the ability to change this scenario. They can undo the change and keep websites open in Internet Explorer, just as many want.
To do this, they need to open Edge and reveal their menu, by clicking on the 3 dots in the top right corner. Inside, you have to choose the Settings option, thus opening a new tab with access to all the configuration options of this browser.
Stop Edge from opening web pages
Then choose the default Browser tab and change the first option. The selected option should be Only incompatible sites, which should change to Never. However, if you want, you can change the scenario and choose Always.
We remind you that this should be a temporary change and will be changed soon. Edge is currently a more capable browser with far more features than Internet Explorer. Furthermore, it is, of course, more secure and with better protection for users.
