Radeon RX 6800 less in 4-8 weeks? – Hardware

AMD and Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards are currently facing the same problems as Nvidia and their GeForce RTX 30 series: lack of availability and higher prices than promised. Some suppliers have reached the recommended prices a bit, after all these are officially “non-binding” and buyers have almost no alternatives. But AMD promises improvements soon.

The Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT “Big Navi” graphics cards based on the new “RDNA 2” architecture with – for AMD – the first hardware support for real-time ray tracing have been officially on the market for about two weeks as models of reference and are manufacturer specific Models with their own cooling solutions actually from last week. However, you can hardly find them anywhere and, if so, only with substantial surcharges from 100 to even 250 euros.

Danish retailer Proshop, known for its openness since the introduction of Nvidia GeForce ‘Ampere’ graphics cards, has only received 125 Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT from PowerColor – all in reference design, but still no copies from ASUS, Gigabyte , MSI or Sapphire and also no Powercolor RX 6800 Red Dragon or Red Devil models with their own coolers, although hundreds have been ordered.

Now, however, AMD employees are said to have promised in private discussions that the manufacturer’s Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards should be available in four to eight weeks at originally recommended retail prices. AMD has allowed its partners to sell their Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics cards for $ 649, and this is expected to happen within the next eight weeks.

Of course, we still have to wait and see if that’s actually the case. But if you can wait until after Christmas to buy a new graphics card, you should keep doing that and postpone your decision until January.
