Frenchman Romain Grosjean miraculously survived the crash at high speed.
French Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean was lucky enough to escape alive when his car burst into flames when he hit a barrier during the opening laps of the Bahrain Grand Prix this Sunday.
Coming out of a corner on lap one, Grosjean hit another car, lost control and crashed into a barrier. As a result of the high-speed crash, the car caught fire almost instantly in a huge fireball.
The pictures prove it the vehicle was split in two after impact.
The race was immediately canceled as emergency services rushed to take care of the 34-year-old pilot, who was seen emerging from the flames just in time. The doctors then helped him walk and he was taken by ambulance to a medical center.
According to preliminary reports, the French driver may have suffered minor burns to the limbs and broken ribs. But without a doubt, it can be said that the safety systems of Formula 1 saved his life.
The impact was measured at more than 50G, according to a spokesperson for the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the governing body of the sport.
