Marcus Rashford has his own take on the Man Utd situation that baffled Paul Scholes

Marcus Rashford benefited from an unusual situation to enter the scoresheet against Istanbul Basaksehir earlier this week.

With Bruno Fernandes in hat-trick, most expected the Portuguese playmaker to step forward when Rashford won a penalty in the first half.

Instead, Fernandes handed the ball to Rashford, who scored his fifth goal in four Champions League games this season.

The incident left Manchester United legend Paul Scholes perplexed as he watched in the studio as he covered the match for BT Sport.

Marcus Rashford has now had his say on the situation and explained exactly why Fernandes gave up the penalty.

He told Stretty News: “There was a similar situation during the Leipzig game, when I could have scored my first career hat-trick.

“Luckily I got the hat-trick and we got a fantastic result against a very tough team, but what was important at the time was that the team felt good, confident and motivated to move forward with the next series of matches. It’s a very busy time and we all play a role in the team’s success. “

Immediately after the game, Bruno Fernandes provided similar reasoning by indicating that Rashford handed him a Premier League penalty early this campaign.

“That’s not the point,” he told BT Sport when asked if he felt charitable.
