Yesterday (11/23/2020), Square Enix released a video on its official YouTube channel where it announced the sequel to The world ends with you. Therefore, the northern hemisphere summer of 2021 has been established as the launch date, a total of 14 years from the first game of the franchise. Watch the trailer:

As per the trailer, the game will now move into the 3D world and have an open world. Furthermore, it is clear that the battle system will undergo some changes. The same can be said of the characters in the game; the principal will no longer be Neku, but Laughing. As for the game title, it was officially like NEO: The world ends with you, and already has a website, where the user can subscribe to a newsletter.

The sequel will be available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Sobre The world ends with you

Launched in 2007, the first (and until the announcement of the sequel, the only) game in the franchise was released for Nintendo DS. For its fascinating 2D graphics and an original storyline, as well as impeccable gameplay, it has been successful with critics and fans, becoming over the years a “cult classic”, even if at first it did not appreciate the number of sales.

The original story follows Neku, a boy who suddenly finds himself in the “Game of the Reaper”, a forced competition that threatens players with being erased from history. Thus, together with Shiki, Neku fights different creatures to avoid disappearing forever. The game takes place in a side-scrolling style RPG that, apparently, will not remain in the next version of the franchise.
