MagentaTV: new Discovery channels and more UHD

Discovery and Telekom are extending their partnership and even expanding it. In addition to all the Discovery channels for MagentaTV, additional streaming rights and live sports in UHD are also available.

The collaboration between Discovery and Deutsche Telekom continues: DMAX, TLC and Eurosport 1 are already available for customers with MagentaTV in SD and HD. From today, Home & Garden TV can also be viewed in HD quality. In the future, all other Discovery Germany channels will also be included in the MagentaTV repertoire. For this you need the BigTV add-on package. Includes Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Eurosport 2, each in SD and HD.

Under the agreement between the two companies, OTT and streaming rights are included with all broadcasters. In addition to the linear range of MagentaTV, additional options should be possible: such as hard disk based recordings, instant restart, TV replay and delayed viewing.

More sports live in UHD

Additionally, Discovery and Telekom are planning more UHD content together. In addition to Discovery’s VoD content, they want to present other live sporting events in UHD. A Discovery spokesperson has only been able to confirm the French Open for the time being. However, the tennis tournament is already broadcast annually in UHD. UHD broadcasts are in discussion with other organizers. In principle, Discovery has the necessary infrastructure for various tournaments. But it is also due to the possibilities of the organizers: UHD is particularly suitable for set games with a constant camera setting, with more agile sports this is more difficult to implement. In this regard, winter sports will probably not be seen in very high definition for the moment. It remains to be seen which sporting events will be added in the new year.
