The huge demand for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is a hit with scammers and “especially smart” people. After the consoles have already been offered at exorbitant prices on eBay, another brazen scam joins them. For example, vendors sometimes only offer the console box, but make it look like it’s the console itself and thus reap high prices.
Console box instead of console
For many eBay shoppers, this is likely to be a rude awakening when they notice that they’ve only bought a box of PS5 or Xbox Series X. Because there are some offers on eBay.
While some of them are a little more transparent, the “Cardboard Only” warning for this Xbox Series X offering is only found in small print, but not in the header:

PS5 box for over 700 euros
It looks different with a PlayStation 5 offering. Here it is already stated in the header of the offer that it is packaging, but there are many bidders who have already pushed the price beyond 700 euros.
It can be assumed that these bidders have not noticed that they are only offering some cardboard, although it is also mentioned again in the offer description.
Of course, everyone should read everything carefully before making a purchase, and eBay also offers some degree of buyer protection. These offers are bold, however, as there are always people falling for them. It is not for nothing that the boxes are offered and bought or auctioned at a price that actually refers to the consoles themselves.
Therefore it should be said here again: If you really want to buy a PlayStation 5 and / or Xbox Series X on eBay, take a close look and make sure you’re safe.
