Swiss skiing mourns Doris De Agostini. The 62-year-old from Ticino died on Sunday at the age of 62 after a short and serious illness, as Swiss Ski writes on its website.
The Airolo downhill specialist won eight races between 1976 and 1983 and scored a total of 19 podiums. De Agostini won his first World Cup race in Bad Gastein at the age of 17. He participated in the Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 1976 and in Lake Placid in 1980. At the World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he won the bronze medal in downhill.
At just 25, Doris De Agostini resigned in 1983, at the height of her career, as a winner of the Downhill World Cup. In the same year she was voted Swiss Sportswoman of the Year.
