Is anyone safe? Spitting Image returns to Australian television screens with Scott Morrison and Jacinda Arden among the puppets

Puppets imitating Scott Morrison and Jacinda Ardern will appear on Australian television screens as Spitting Image returns to our screens this week.
The British satirical puppet show will return on Monday with caricatures of Australian and New Zealand leaders.
Morrison’s puppet is dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, mocking the prime minister’s overseas trip during the horrific fire season in late 2019.
Roger Law, co-creator of the show, said Morrison has “a bit of a silly look about him.”

New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern also has her own puppet, which sports an exaggerated mouth and set of teeth.
‘The caricature was drawn by Johannes Leak, son of [political cartoonist] Bill Leak. He’s a great puppet, ”he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The show was originally created in 1984 and was one of the most successful programs on British television during its 18 seasons.
Spitting Image will now be available to Australians on the brand new BritBox streaming service, a joint venture between the BBC and ITV, also launching on Monday.
Former US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Borris Johnson will also be imitated on the show.
Mr. Law said that while the show was widely successful, it’s also hard to keep up, as the new puppets take up to a week to make.

The resumption of the 10-episode season saw the creation of 100 new puppets, including international leaders and celebrities.
While elements of social satire and recurring storylines are written in advance, the show stays up to date with its timely response to news.
Each episode is recorded days before airing.
While Mr. Law put a spin on retirement, the 79-year-old decided to bring the show back due to the current political climate.
“Christ, it’s the right time. It is very difficult for satirists to get a lot out of people like Trump and Boris [Johnson], because they do it for you, “he said.
“But with puppets, you can make them do things people don’t. In our show, Trump has an extended colon, tweets with his butt. It is very graphic. “
