A new one has been added to the list of applications that engage in suspicious activity. Moreover, this application called VivaVideo has been downloaded more than 100 million times in the Google Play Store and has been rated by over 12 million users. What the app did was officially steal money from its users.
20 million suspicious transactions
The method followed by VivaVideo was shared by the Secure-D mobile security platform. Secure-D announced that its algorithms have detected more than 20 million suspicious purchases originating from the VivaVideo application since early 2019. Application developers were officially stealing money from their users.
Using this method, Secure-D, which looked at the phones of real people whose money was stolen, began capturing subscription requests in real time in the v7.3 version of VivaVideo. This request was made automatically without the user’s permission. Furthermore, the permissions requested by the application were already more than necessary.
It has not yet been effective in Turkey
Although the application has not yet shown a reported effect in our country, this does not mean that the situation will remain so. Ultimately, the application running on the subscription system has the risk of collecting user information in our country and making payments on behalf of users when you download them.
27 million dollar bill
The application, which receives the premium subscription money from its users but does not offer them the features, has earned nearly $ 27 million from its users in 19 countries with this method. Secure-D said steps should be taken such as obtaining information about the application and its developer on the Internet and checking the required permissions to avoid such events.
