realme definitely surprised in the past few weeks. With the realme 7 and even the realme 7 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer is offering two Android smartphones that have already made people sit and take notice. The Pro model is also referred to as a gaming mobile phone and this for less than 300 euros in parts! We’ve put the model to the test and now we’re going to tell you how light-hearted you can gamble with the budget device.
Design: chic, good workmanship, the price remains visible
Basically, the realme 7 Pro has a very chic design. Above all, the rear in the two differently shimmering frames is quite attractive. This distinguishes the model from other manufacturers. As known by the Chinese producers, the quality of the workmanship is also of the highest level. No gaps or grooves spoil the impression. Even with a firm grip, nothing creaks.
The price range makes it relatively clear in other places that the savings are simply necessary. So the edges of the display bezel are really huge. There is also a very visible chin at the bottom. Features that suggest a favorable price. We think this is of secondary importance, because realme tries to get as many smartphones as possible to customers with little money. So keep these points in mind. However, it does not interfere with the functionality of the model.
The 6.4-inch display model is therefore bulky. With dimensions of 160 x 74.3 x 8.7mm, the realme 7 Pro is quite large, but 182 grams is still light enough for this size. To be honest, most gaming phone makes it feel a little heavier than it actually is. However, we didn’t find it particularly tragic.
Hardware: there are so many things for under 300 euros
realme confines itself to almost the most important points with its 7 Pro. We got the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory for testing. A Snapdragon 720G is used as the processor. However, the “G” does not stand for 5G mobile radio, because only LTE is used with the X15 modem. It would be surprising for the price.
But what can the Snapdragon 720G do? It’s at least certain that this doesn’t come close to OnePlus Nord’s Snapdragon 765G. But it’s fast enough to complete daily tasks with maximum performance. Playing complex games is also not a problem, albeit with some significant drawbacks. Genshin Impact Genshin Impact works smoothly enough with only low details or maybe just below.
However, the potency is basically enough to survive everyday life with flying colors. You simply don’t need more power for news, browsing, WhatsApp, Facebook and Co. With Bluetooth 5.1 you are even on the signs of aging, only the new WiFi 6 standard is missing, but this is bearable because most home routers don’t it has still been converted and even higher data rates require a matching line.

The AMOLED display is also admirable, because you shouldn’t expect it in this price range. It measures 6.4 inches and has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FullHD +). Thanks to OLED technology, the theoretical contrast goes to infinity and thus guarantees bright colors, a good viewing angle and high readability in sunlight.
The color rendering is actually very good, even if you notice the lower panel price compared to an iPhone 12, OnePlus 8T or Galaxy S20 Ultra. Understandably that’s not enough for the upper class, but that’s not the goal at all. Readability under strong sunlight is also typical for AMOLEDs, which also applies to the stability of the viewing angle.
As usual for the price range, though, you have to make do with sharp edges on the sides and a big chin on the underside. The display also appears to have shifted a bit in the housing, which doesn’t necessarily give the impression of touching the symbols directly, as is the case with many expensive models. The refresh rate is 60 Hertz and is therefore also well below the upper class. As I said: given the price, that’s fine.

realme 7 Pro camera: OK, but based on price
The realme 7 Pro promises an impressive 64 megapixels with a Sony sensor and also includes an 8 megapixel super wide angle sensor and two additional 2MP sensors for macro and depth measurement. But can the camera live up to its previous high quality? Well, the sword is pretty double-edged at this point.
The camera actually takes good photos under normal lighting conditions. There is a lack of sharpness at the edges because the high megapixel count reaches its limits and there is simply no high quality image processor, even if a Sony IMX 682 sensor is used. However, the results can be seen in daylight and we were pleasantly surprised. The colors are clear despite small weaknesses in the dynamics and the images are generally good. In low light, however, it becomes difficult and there is a lot of noise.
Furthermore, the super wide-angle sensor can only be used for games and useful results are difficult to achieve. This also applies to the macro camera and depth sensor (both 2MP), both of which are simply a disaster, which is not only a problem with realme 7 Pro, but affects almost all budget devices with a “quad camera”. Unfortunately, we don’t find it intoxicating that manufacturers have to force anything here because of marketing.
realme 7 Pro in the test: the battery charges with a whopping 65 watts!
It is often interesting to see how cheaper smartphones in particular come with very large batteries that dwarf even the high-priced competition. The realme 7 Pro in the test is now not overly oversized with 4500mAh, but it is more than adequately equipped. Thanks to the components that require less energy, two full days are almost always possible with normal use. You can also throw one or the other game without hesitation.
In this price range, however, the 65 watts should be completely new when charging. The Chinese manufacturer also includes the necessary power supply for this. We were able to load realme 7 Pro from 0 to 100 percent in the test in under 40 minutes which is really excellent value! However, we were unable to determine how well the battery can handle this long-term issue in a missing long-term test. To act gently here, however, some measures are already built into the software, which, for example, allow for slower charging at night.

Bottom line: some top class features at an average price
The word “pro” in the name might confuse some people. The realme 7 Pro isn’t a high-end model and doesn’t even want to be, but it does have some pretty atypical components. Among other things, the good battery life, the fast 65 watt charging and the good AMOLED display should be mentioned here. The 64MP camera is fine too, but you can tell the price here.
This also applies to the absolute rest: the realme 7 Pro does less well with the other three cameras. The super wide-angle mode isn’t great, the other two sensors are more of a disaster. It is quite a mystery to us why macros and depth sensors in this form always find space in devices. But the quad camera simply sounds “more interesting” than the dual camera, so certainly understandable as a marketing gag, but somehow impractical.
But what then remains is the price and it’s worth considering. The realme 7 Pro has an MSRP of 299 euros, which is more than reasonable. Performance is excellent and should leave some competitors behind. Only the Xiaomi Poco X3, which was introduced a few weeks ago, is similarly equipped and is much cheaper at around 230 euros. During Black Friday, the price of both devices could drop significantly again. If you are looking for a cheap Android phone with great features for the price, it will be hard to beat realme 7 Pro.
