Alexander Zverev missed his third consecutive semi-final in the ATP finals. The German number one was defeated by world number one Novak Djokovic 3: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7) and finished third only in the preliminary round “Tokyo 1970”.

Djokovic, who has already won the tournament five times, has secured second place and will meet Austrian US Open champion Dominic Thiem on Saturday. The second semifinal will be played by the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Spanish Rafael Nadal, 20 times winner of the Grand Slam. The final will take place on Sunday.

In 2018 Zverev triumphed at the prestigious end of the year with a victory against Djokovic, in 2019 he was eliminated in the semifinals. That year he had lost his first match against Medvedev and then won the “final” of the group against Djokovic with a win against Argentine Diego Schwartzman.
