Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors sustained a leg injury during training on Wednesday. This was followed by confirmation that the shooting guard had torn an Achilles tendon.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson will be out for the entire season. He’s the Achilles tendon in his right foot after he tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee in the 2019 Finals. The shooting guard then missed the entire 2019/20 season.
Golden State can now apply for the so-called disabled player exception in the amount of $ 9.3 million. This can be used for a player or an exchange.
The 29-year-old was training with several other NBA players in Los Angeles when he got injured and felt pain in the calf area as he landed on his leg, wrote Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.
Bob Myers confirms Klay Thompson’s injury
Warriors GM Bob Meyers also spoke at a press conference where rookies were supposed to actually be introduced: “I don’t want to compare that to what a lot of people in this country are going through,” Meyers referred to the crown pandemic. “Many people are in pain and have something that can’t be cured. But when I heard about Klay’s injury over the phone, I turned pale.”
Meyers confirmed that it is not possible that Thompson will appear for the Dubs next season, but he was optimistic that everything will go smoothly in rehab. However, he also showed pity for the shooting guard: “It hurts him not to be able to play basketball. We suffer with him, nobody deserves anything like that. This guy lives in basketball.”
The Warriors wanted to start another bout on the championship next season with a fit Thompson and core Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins as well as rookie James Wiseman, enlisted in 2nd place. The Shooting Guard has been elected to the All-Star Team five times in his career and has won the title three times with the Warriors. In the 2018/19 season he placed an average of 21.5 points at 40.2 percent of the center.
