After several indiscretions this Wednesday 18 November, Giuseppe Palmisano, President of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, together with Mervin Maldonado, the regime’s minister of sport, held a press conference to confirm what was known since last Friday: there will be an LVBP season.

“We are satisfied with the start of the 2020-21 season. It was a difficult process due to the pandemic factor. We did not know that the commitment of the Ministry of Sport was so great, they encouraged us to insist on getting what was necessary to be able to complete this season, “said Palmisano.

He added: “The presence of government agencies did not hesitate to support us from the point of view of biosecurity and health, aligning us with the safety protocols of the MLB. Everything we needed was ready for the season.

Maldonado clarified that he had done all the tests necessary to comply with the security protocol.

“All teams will enter the bubble (of approved locations) with PCR tests to rule out any contagion. All necessary tests will be carried out and in all spaces there will be continuous disinfection”.

From this Monday the teams entered the field to start training, the Eagles of Zulia and the Cardinals of Lara were the first to do so this week.

The format in which this championship will be played, more atypical than the previous one – until December under the veto of OFAC -, will be in “bubble”, divided into two divisions.

The Eastern Division is made up of: Lions from Caracas, Sharks from La Guaira, Bravos from Margarita and Caribes from Anzoátegui.

While in Occidental there are: Navegantes del Magallanes, Tigres de Aragua, Cardenales and Águilas.

However, the places will be divided as follows: Cardenales y Águilas in Barquisimeto, Leones y Tiburones in Caracas. Magallanes and Bravos in Valencia and Tigres y Caribes in Maracay.

“There will also be a double game this season, it will be normal”, clarified the president of the LVBP. In addition, 14 matches will be played at the Macuto stadium,

Two teams will be ranked by division and will play the best of seven games in both the semi-final and final of the LVBP.

Prepared teams

The Twilight ensemble has announced their import list, as have the Turks. The Cardinals have hired Yordanys Linares – pitcher – Ricardo Gomez – outfielder – Logan Darnell – left handed pitcher.

While Magallanes has signed the outfielders Cade Gotta and Welington Dotel, and the interior Reinaldo Rodríguez and Leonardo Regginato.

For their part, the Sharks have announced that they will have a new manager, Gustavo Molina will have his first experience as helmsman in LVBP.

Lions have announced Víctor Gárate as the leader of this campaign. The former pitcher managed to get the furry team to sharpen their claws and enter the playoffs last season.

The Tigres have hired Luis Ugueto, champion manager with Lara in 2019, as helmsman for this harvest. The Eagles will have Rouglas Odor in command of the team.

Magellan will have Admiral Carlos García once again in command of his ship. For the Caribbean, Jackson Melián will drive in his second year.

Henry Blanco will lead the Braves and José Moreno will lead the two-time champions: the Cardinals.

First business day

November 27 will be the opening match. All teams will play and will be as follows:

Tigers against Caribs.

Caracas Vs. Sharks.

Braves vs Magellan.

Eagles against cardinals.

The time of the meetings is not yet known. The teams together with the League are coordinating the schedule so that they too are broadcast.
