Japanese provider Sony is expanding its film lineup with a new full-frame camera for professionals: the FX6. As a camera, it is equipped with Sony’s most important core technologies, the company reports. The FX6 supports the following recordings: XAVC All 10-bit Intra recordings with 4: 2: 2 color sampling in DCI 4k, 4k-UHD and Full-HD for slow motion recordings. In addition, the new camera features a full-frame back-exposed Exmor R CMOS sensor with 10.2 megapixels, which offers a dynamic range of over 15 f-stops. Sony guarantees recordings with low image noise.
The base ISO value of 800 also allows you to take pictures in very low light conditions. In addition, the value can be expanded up to ISO 12,800. The BIONZ-XR image processor also ensures fast image processing.
Rather light for a movie camera
The FX6 has a 116 x 153 x 114mm magnesium alloy housing and weighs 0.89 pounds. Thanks to its low weight, the camera is particularly suitable for spontaneous photos. The housing also has a heat dissipation structure so that the camera does not overheat. Fast hybrid autofocus, 627-point phase detection AF, face recognition with real-time eye autofocus at high frame rates, and continuous autofocus make the Sony FX6 a pro-level camera, according to the manufacturer.
The new camera also features an adjustable ND filter. This makes it easier for users to smoothly check the camera’s filter values and set them correctly.
The FX6 is also compatible with Sony’s E-mount lenses. The FX6’s 3.5-inch LCD viewfinder can be attached to different points on the housing and thus offers additional flexibility.
According to Sony, the new Sony FX6 will go on sale in Switzerland in December at an MSRP of 6527 francs.
