The fantastic game from 2K Games, NBA 2K21, is among those first titles to emerge for the New Generation and we have already had the opportunity to try it, for Playstation 5.
It is worth mentioning that, in essence, this New Generation NBA 2K21 does not present any revolution in relation to the game we analyzed in October, for Xbox One (at the time).
Which isn't to say it doesn't have many good reasons to stand out.
At the speed of light
Thanks to the Playstation 5's SSD storage system, it was already known that game loading times would be significantly optimized. The truth is, these loading times have virtually been eliminated.
Say goodbye to loading times, where you've waited over 30 seconds to launch a game. Now it's practically instant, in less than 3 seconds, we're playing.
And this ultra-fast SSD access is also evident in the access to the District (now the Municipality), the almost 2-minute wait of which now ceases to exist.
Game or reality?
If NBA 2K21 for Xbox One has already presented occasions where it became difficult to see if it was a game or a reality, what about NBA 2K21 on Playstation 5 ???
The new features of Playstation 5 (Ray Tracing brings another dimension to the image) bring a huge graphic revolution, making every game, player, spectator, referee ... ever closer to reality.
All players have a graphic quality that is difficult to describe and unequivocally resemble their real representatives (size, skin color, hair color, hair or lack of it, tattoos, ...). Simply amazing.
Even the detail of the eyes, which in the previous edition still had some orientation defects, have improved.
It is truly impressive. The pavilions and everything they contain seems to come to life suddenly. Suddenly the movements start appearing everywhere. The public is better than ever, alive and reacting to the events on the pitch.
There are also details such as popcorn and ice cream vendors moving through the lines that sell their products.
Intelligence and gameplay
With new computing power, new opportunities arise and one of them lies in the ability to implement new artificial intelligence routines.
NBA 2K21 enters the New Generation with more refined intelligence, both from the players of the opposing teams, and from the players of our CPU-controlled teams.
Time to throw in the basket?
The gameplay of NBA 2K21 on Playstation 5 remains very similar to that of Xbox One. This in a first analysis, because, if we look more closely, it was not only the graphics of each player that were improved. Everyone's body movements have also received improvements and enhancements, being now even more clear and credible.
The new impact engine allows for greater variety and accuracy in aerial duels due to rebounds.
On the other hand, the launch system is a bit more challenging. As in the version we analyzed earlier, the ball is thrown using the square or the right analog and consists in dropping the ball at the exact moment, using a sidebar similar to FIFA 20. Depending on the player and his skill, the bar is higher or lower and therefore the player will have more or less chance of a good shot.
Dribbling is very similar to the game launched in October, but it takes advantage of the console's graphics capabilities and players who have the ability to learn deeper skills and dribbling will be able to make extraordinary plays, especially with the best players in the NBA.
DualSense, on the other hand, presents itself in the game as intended, with competent behavior. In addition to the ambient sounds that come out of the spine and convey a sense of superior envelopment, it presents the player with quite interesting feedback, depending on the action. For example, when the player puts more pressure on an opponent, or when he is fighting for an air ball, we feel the vibration, which ends up causing a little more adrenaline and frenzy.
The triggers (especially the R2, for sprinting) are also responsive when accelerating or decelerating the stroke.
As a curiosity, a new camera has been created for the game, the Rail Cam which, almost presents a closer viewing angle, but which accompanies the action and seems to highlight all the positive aspects of NBA 2K21.
Game mode
As for the game modes, NBA 2K21 arrives in the New Generation with practically the same modalities, despite some restructuring of the menus.
MyTeam and MyCareer modes remain the options of choice and very similar to what we saw in our Xbox One review.
One of the most visible changes in terms of game modes on the home screen was the inclusion of MyNBA and MyWNBA which consist of a restructuring of the old options of playing MyGM, MyLeague, play-offs and the like, in one mode . Basically we can parameterize all the settings in detail, which allows us to create a personalized experience. Whether it's a season, a playoff, a reign in the NBA ...
For example, we can start a league with 36 teams or reduce it to just 12. We can disable all the options that interest us, for example, ticket price management, player reforms, staffing, but, keeping or draft and transfers. Options available to create the most personalized experience possible.
A word of reinforcement for the WNBA, which corresponds to the debut in a special way for the WNBA, similar to what happens with the male version. That includes, a female career mode.
On the other hand, the Neighborhood has ceased to be just the neighborhood to acquire a completely different dimension (for a bigger one), the City. It is a map, much larger than what we had when modifying the previous generation consoles with numerous global events and activities.

NBA 2K21 was already the greatest exponent of basketball games in the previous generation of consoles and now, with the arrival of the New Generation, the position is strengthened. Thanks to the brutal processing power, the blazing speed of access to SSD storage and the fantastic graphics capabilities of the Playstation 5, NBA 2K21 is a real game.
NBA 2K21 in the New Generation is a game that all NBA fans must have. It is simply essential.
