A new Netflix show has finally defeated “The Queen’s Gambit” for the top spot

I thought it might happen, and eventually something big enough came along to eliminate The Queen’s Gambit from being Netflix’s # 1 show on the service, a place it held for nearly a month, save for a day or two where it is. slipped.

That show, of course, is The Crown, which just returned for season 4 with an arc focusing on Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher, both characters avid Crown fans were eager to see made in this ongoing saga about the Queen’s life. (much to the dismay of the current royal family, who constantly call the series “inaccurate”).

Sunday’s The Crown debut took The Queen’s Gambit to # 1 on the top 10 list and actually # 3, behind Kevin Hart’s new comedy special. We’ll have to do some final math, but I believe The Queen’s Gambit has held the # 1 slot longer than almost any other show since the list was introduced, although we haven’t yet gotten the actual viewer numbers from Netflix for. this. I expect him to brag once the series is out for a full month.

The Crown is the rare Netflix series that has passed an expiration date of 1-2 seasons, because Netflix enjoys the prestige it gives it and the series looks like it will live up to six or seven seasons in total, according to various reports on the plans. to finish the arc when it reaches the present day. Will we end up with the separation between Harry and Meghan? Will it play itself? Who knows.

The Queen’s Gambit, meanwhile, will end up as the limited series it was supposed to be, as far as we know. Star Anya Taylor-Joy has a slew of film projects on the way that she’s headed for, albeit with the state of the film industry, who knows what’s going to happen there. I wouldn’t rule out Netflix changing their minds and asking if there’s a way Beth Harmon could come back for more overwhelming action, even if the original book from which the series was adapted has been spent. I hope this does not happen and that the series can exist as a more or less perfect one-piece.

So how long will The Crown stay on top here? Probably not mashed potato long, not on the level of Queen’s Gambit, anyway. It is quite impressive that season 4 of a series is so ranked, given that in general, viewerships decrease as the seasons pass. But I think Princess Diana is the big draw this time around and everyone wants to see how that “plot” is made.

I’ll keep an eye on things and will soon be watching The Crown when I have time.
