The first Apple devices with the new M1 chip will hit stores on Friday. The first pre-ordered devices have been delivered since the beginning of the week. In addition, Apple’s marketing machine also runs at full speed. Before official sales begin, the test devices are distributed to high-level tech journalists and influential bloggers.
Before we get to the reviews of well-known US tech portals and gadget-savvy reviewers, we should talk about the technical background of the M1.
It seems that many people don’t know how radical Apple’s move to its Mac chips is and what it means for the personal computers of the future.
One online commenter rightly said:

People only complain about the colors of the housing, the same design, the resolution of the webcams and the 1mm lower display frame. This development is very sad. Forget short YouTube videos that try to divert attention from the depths of the content with quick editing. Do all new Macs have the same new M1 chip?
Yes but…
There is no active ventilation built into the Macbook Air. The heat generated during the calculation must be dissipated through the components and the housing. In the event of a lot of heat, when the internal sensors of the computer measure that a maximum temperature has been exceeded, the performance is automatically reduced. The Macbook Pro and Mac Mini, on the other hand, have a built-in fan for air circulation. As a result, the device shouldn’t overheat that quickly and can be used longer at maximum power.
The following applies to all new devices: The working memory (RAM) of the Apple M1 is located directly in a so-called System-in-Package integrated. This is also known as “Unified Memory” and means that the main memory cannot be expanded later. But this new chip design is much more efficient. As a user, you need to think about what the Mac should be used for before purchasing – if you are planning video editing and other computer-intensive jobs, you should choose 16 gigabytes (GB) instead of 8 GB for the configuration of the RAM. The manufacturer offers only these two variants.

How good is the new Macbook Pro?
Tech Crunch editor-in-chief Matthew Panzarino tested the most expensive of the three new models with an M1 chip, the Macbook Pro.

“Outperforms most Intel Macs in multiple benchmarks, runs applications reliably, and delivers a great everyday experience, whether you use it for web browsing and emailing, or for creative editing and professional work. What’s wrong with the new Macbooks?
The most important thing in any computer is the software. Even the best hardware is useless without good software.
According to t3n.de, there are three types of applications (apps):

And resource-hungry programs that weren’t optimized for the M1 yet ran faster or faster. The “Wall Street Journal” pre-buttoned the Chrome browser and ran 50 tabs open at the same time. No problem! This is thanks to the Rosetta 2 translation software (integrated into the new macOS Big Sur operating system).
As is known, the apps for iPhone and iPad can now be used directly on Mac (without Rosetta 2): here the single US testers are disappointed by the previous presentations and above all by the usability and ease of use.
The testers also criticize the front camera, which is integrated into the frame of the case for video chats.
“Apple has missed a good opportunity to make real improvements to the MacBook Air beyond the processor. The old 720p webcam is a laptop crime, although the M1 chip does a better job of cleaning up the image output. “
