Coronavirus-related hospital death toll rises by 10 in Birmingham and the Black Country

Another 105 patients died in Birmingham and Black Country hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the region’s toll to 3,185 since the start of the pandemic.

Seven deaths have been recorded at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals, bringing the death toll to 1,195.

Two deaths were recorded at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Sandwell General and City hospitals, where the toll has risen to 485.

One death was reported to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which includes New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals.

No new deaths have been reported to the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which manages Walsall Manor Hospital, or the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which manages Russells Hall Hospital.

Four other deaths occurred at the teaching hospitals of the North Midlands NHS Foundation Trust, which operates Stafford County Hospital and Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Another death was registered with the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Staffordshire.

An NHS England spokesperson said: “Another 132 people who tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals in England to 36,322.

“The patients were between the ages of 45 and 100. All but one (69) had known underlying health conditions.”
