Bartomeu has messages to reply to

Last October 27th Josep María Bartomeu announced to the media that he would resign of his office as president of FC Barcelona after five years in office, accompanied by its managers. The pressure and discontent with Barcelonism, led by first team players and club fans for mismanagement (mainly financial) forced Bartomeu to make the decision to voluntarily leave his post, before the vote of no confidence.

The Catalan businessman left the Camp Nou offices in one of the the club’s worst moments in its history. Barça was going through a sporting crisis, which was accentuated with the victory of Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in Lisbon, Lionel Messi’s attempt to leave during the summer and the start of a new project, led by Ronald Koeman. The former president assured, before saying goodbye that neither he nor his council wanted “Escape despite personal wear and tear because a club like Barça must have orderly transitions”.

Bartomeu wanted to avoid becoming the first president forced to resign and preferred a voluntary departure. Shortly after two weeks of submitting his resignation letter, the Catalan live a much more discreet life and away from the media. He closed his social networks, where he received thousands of criticisms and insults every day for his management in the Barça team and now is focused on your business, specialized in ‘fingers’ for port and airport terminals.

The media reports Bartomeu has around 1,700 WhatsApps and hundreds of calls to answer. Mostly, these are signs of encouragement and goodbye messages from the club, but try to respond to them little by little to achieve a more peaceful life, far from being the president of one of the most important clubs in the world.

January 24 will be the presidential elections in Barcelona to choose Josep María Bartomeu’s successor.
