The TRON Foundation has announced that it will make the BitTorrent network faster and more efficient. The integration of the TRON blockchain into the peer-to-peer system will create new incentives for digital content feeders.
In July of this year, it became known that the TRON Foundation had acquired the company behind the torrent protocol, BitTorrent Inc. Now the blockchain company has announced further details on how the technologies will work together.
Project Atlas makes BitTorrent a "token" economy
With Project Atlas, TRON wants to connect the BitTorrent peer-to-peer network with its blockchain. This must be done with protocol extensions and its own token. So TRON wants to create a token economy within the torrent client, which should make data transfer much faster:
Project Atlas is the basis for a new type of content distribution. The product will offer faster downloads, more seeds, compatibility with previous versions and all without mining. It is adapted to today's world: mobile, connected and transparent. Ultimately, we want to empower all creators of content and their communities, eliminating intermediaries and allowing authors to distribute directly to users, "said the TRON group,
says the founder of TRON, Justin Sun.
Keep the Seeders motivated
Once the TRON blockchain has been implemented in the torrent system, peers should be able to exchange tokens with one another. The background to this is that there is no real incentive for torrent users to sow data records, ie upload them completely to the network for a longer period of time. With TRON, uploaders should be able to earn tokens by sowing. If you provide more bandwidth and storage space, you'll earn more. Leechers, or downloaders, should be able to offer amounts if they want to get a particular file faster. The entire network should become faster and longer lasting.
Tron tokens (TRX) do not work with the proof-of-work mechanism, which means that no one has to do cryptocurrency mining when they implement torrents. Instead, TRX works with the delegate trial mechanism of the game. Here, a system of witnesses and delegates guarantees the reliable validation of individual blocks.
Atlas of the project: the future of content distribution
There is no need to make the transition
If the blockchain integrates the Bittorrent network, there will be no coercion of the user. According to TRON, no one should participate in the coin economy. The technology is compatible with previous versions, which means that file sharers do not have to change clients or install extensions to continue leaching and seeding. The plan is to implement the new technology first in desktop applications and then in mobile apps. Just like BitTorrent, Project Atlas should be open source, so that even third parties can integrate the system into their customers.
The TRON Atlas project and the introduction of tokens in the BitTorrent network continue to provide discussion material. If Leecher Seeder pays for faster data transfers, this could lead to an imbalance in which the current exchange of free data dies gradually. On the other hand, by creating monetary incentives, the peer-to-peer network could actually grow and much more data could be available than before. We'll know more when the first torrent client with the TRON extension is displayed.
