To prevent the Bas-Saint-Laurent region from falling into the red zone, the health authorities are asking the population to make a last effort and ask for screening in all accommodation facilities in Matanie, while two hotbed houses are still active.

“If we have to change the level in two weeks because there are outbreaks everywhere, we can’t say we don’t know. At the moment, a collective effort is needed,” launched Bas-Saint-Laurent’s director of public health, Dr. Sylvain Leduc, during a press conference.

Two private residences for the elderly are still battling outbreaks in Matane.

The Résidence des Bâtisseurs de Matane is now among the ten “critical” private residences (RPAs) in Quebec. There are 79 cases related to this residence, of which 62 are residents, 14 workers and three carers.

At the Résidence des Sages de Matane, there are now 11 out of 17 infected residents. An employee has also contracted COVID-19.

“It’s a very high attack rate. It testifies to the great ability of this virus to be transmitted in a closed environment. […]. It shows that even with great effort, a highly contagious virus can spread easily, ”added Dr Leduc.

The mobile screening clinic was reactivated in Matane on Thursday morning so that all workers in Matanie’s shelters could be tested.

The Résidence des Bâtisseurs has been under the supervision of the Integrated Center of Health and Social Services (CISSS) of Bas-Saint-Laurent for several months due to the numerous complaints that have been presented.

In recent months, CISSS indicates that it has produced management plans to help management correct some shortcomings. In addition to this active surveillance, an administrative investigation has recently been launched.

“We were concerned enough to initiate an investigation process in early October,” added CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent Director of Quality, Evaluation, Performance and Clinical Ethics, Gino Beaudoin. When the investigation is underway. , the CISSS says it guarantees “that services are” safe “at the Résidence des Bâtisseurs.
