Who will get the vaccine first? This is THE question that intrigues citizens all over the world, waiting for a first vaccine.
A first glimmer of hope
On November 9, a press release from Pfizer and Biontech laboratories claimed to have an investigational vaccine that is reliable and 90% effective. The information made headlines in all media; enough to give a little balm to the hearts of the citizens of the world, in this dark time.
An indefinite wait
To date, it is difficult to know how soon enough vaccines will be available for everyone. In several months, for sure.
On the French side, the High Authority of Health addressed the problem by determining who should receive the famous remedy first.
Health experts
Not surprisingly, we find nursing staff at the top of this ranking:
In all scenarios envisaged, the health and medical-social workers on the front line will constitute essential priority objectives for vaccination, achieving the objectives of individual and collective prevention and of maintaining the essential activities of the country during a period of epidemic.
This would represent approximately 2.8 million people, according to the Haute Autorité de santé.
People at risk, but still …
Otherwise, people at risk of severe form who will pay the highest price in terms of hospitalization and death (those over 65 and those with comorbidities) will also be targeted primarily by vaccination once the favorable risk / benefit ratio is established.
Specifies the French body.
In everything? This would represent around 23 million people, plus 8 million obese people.
Note that this figure could be broadly extended to take into account the entourage of “people at risk” as well.
Community circles
Another idea considered: that of vaccinating groups of individuals living in configurations that increase the risk of transmission of the virus.
Case to be continued.
