From June 1, 2021, Google Photos users will no longer be able to back up unlimited high-quality photos and videos to the cloud service for free. All media uploaded after expiration will then count towards the standard 15 GByte Google Account storage space, which is available for free. If you exceed this limit, you must take out a paid Google One subscription.
The previous free offer was the only selling point of Google Photos and ensured that many smaller photo shoots had to give up. Observers therefore see the move as another example of anti-competitive behavior on Google’s part. The tech giant could afford to run a loss-making business for years and can now cash in thanks to decimated competition.
Bankruptcy on YouTube
YouTube was offline for nearly two hours around the world last night, as reported by “The Verge”. Videos weren’t playing and Google TV wasn’t available either. YouTube later gave the green light on Twitter, the cause of the failure was not disclosed.
The new Apple M1 chips perform well in the benchmark
The first benchmarks, ie speed measurements, of new Apple computers with the self-developed M1 chip have emerged, as «Macrumors» writes. They show that new computers are significantly faster than almost all existing Macs with Intel chips. Last year’s high-class and expensive 16-inch MacBook Pro was also beaten by Macs with Apple Silicon. Only a few desktop computers like Mac Pro or iMac are even faster.
