The small coronavirus responsible for covid-19 triggers many discussions …
It never ceases to amaze the scientific community. This article tries to shed an updated light on the questions, but every day we discover new things thanks to the studies of the researchers, the information evolves … So I write this article with humility.
Infection
– The virus infects us mainly by respiratory route (in the projections we breathe), but most likely also by hand (the hand we put in our mouth, the finger that scratches the nose…). We know that it stays on inert surfaces (wood, iron, plastic) for up to several days, but a study has just shown that it stays active on the skin for nine hours, while the classic flu virus only stays active for two hours …
This coronavirus is therefore much more contagious, because it is more stable (lives longer) than most viruses outside our body. Hence the importance, therefore, of wearing a mask and
thorough hand washing.
– A sick person is contagious for about a week, but remains contagious as long as symptoms persist.
– Several studies tend to show that there are “super-contaminating” people responsible for clusters and others who are very small. Unfortunately, we haven’t yet shown a link to symptom severity … Logic, however, suggests that asymptomatic people aren’t the most infectious.
– Children, especially when young, are very likely little or little contagious and, for the most part, have little symptomatic or asymptomatic forms.
– The infection from the pregnant mother to her child is zero or minimal.
Clinical signs and severity
– Most often, it is a banal “sore throat” with more or less fever, fatigue and stiffness (called flu syndrome), cough, loss of smell and taste (these two symptoms are specific to the disease), diarrhea, skin.
– In some cases, the body’s defense reaction is carried away until it becomes toxic or even fatal to our organs. It is often (but not only) the most fragile people (elderly, carriers of a chronic disease such as diabetes, a heart problem, obesity …). This occurs about a week after symptoms appear.
Next time we will see what are the screenings and what are the treatments.
