Fernando Gago on retirement from football – Internacional

Fernando Gago will retire from football at the age of 34 and has communicated the decision to his teammates at Vélez Sarsfield, the emblem he has represented since last season. The news was confirmed this Tuesday by the coach of the Argentine club, Pablo Cavallero. “It is difficult and difficult to accept. We know the level of demand and what Gago conveys. His retirement is a great loss. He has made a great effort to recover and has shown his dedication. We have lost a very important player”, said the coach on the Closs Continental radio.

Trained at Boca Juniors, Gago played for Real Madrid between 2007 and 2010 and also played for Roma and Valencia. He has had a career of ups and downs mainly due to serious injuries, the last of which was in January of this year due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. After the recovery, the experienced midfielder played three games for Veléz, two in the Copa Sudamericana and one last Sunday, for the Argentine League Cup, against Godoy Cruz.
