Some websites and social media pages are spreading reports of a shortage of drugs for Coronavirus treatment protocols.
In turn, the Media Center of the Council of Ministers contacted the Egyptian Medicines Authority, which denied the news, confirming that there is no truth on the existence of any shortcomings of therapeutic drug protocols for the Coronavirus, stressing the availability of all the drugs of the treatment protocol in all the governorates of the Republic, and that the strategic stock of them is safe and reassuring.
The authority indicated, in its statement released today, Thursday, published by the Media Center for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers on its official page on the social networking site “Facebook”, that there is a continuous follow-up of the availability situation of Corona drugs, and the injection of any additional quantities of them if necessary, through coordination with the Unified Procurement Authority, in line with the country’s strategy for the timely prediction of drug shortages.
The statement stated that, from June to last October, nearly 12 million packages of “azithromycin” tablets, nearly one million and 900 thousand bottles of “azithromycin” syrup and nearly 24 million and 600 thousand packages of medicines were pumped. “Paracetamol” tablets, and nearly one million and 900 thousand bottles of “paracetamol” syrup, and nearly 14 million and 500 thousand strips of “zinc” medicinal tablets, and nearly 22 million strips of vitamin C tablets, driven by consumption rates during the period The previous peak, coordinating with various pharmaceutical companies operating in the local market.
The statement states that a monitoring and follow-up system has been developed to avoid any drug shortages by monitoring the stock of important and vital drugs such as insulin and blood pressure drug groups, emergency and care drugs, diabetes, cancers, dyes for radiation, Parkinson’s, blood products, immunomodulators, intravenous fluids, anesthetics and medicines for the treatment of symptoms of the Corona virus, with the aim of covering the needs of the local market, as well as government hospitals, in coordination with the Unified Procurement Authority, and the state has a strategic stock of drugs and raw materials that covers 6 to 12 months.
The Egyptian Medicines Authority has called on all media and social media users to investigate the accuracy and objectivity in publishing news and to communicate with relevant authorities to make sure before publishing information that is not based on any done and leading to confusion and anxiety among citizens.
