Huawei has developed its Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) as an alternative to Google services that it has not been able to use since it was blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce. Despite continuing to market new versions of some smartphones with Google Mobile Services, the brand has launched new models based on its own service structure, including the top of the range Mate 30 and P40.
The new Mate 40 Pro, which was recently introduced, will hit stores in Portugal tomorrow and the references have been very positive, with DXoMark placing the smartphone at the top of the best camera rankings and Antutu’s benchmark analysis shows that the smartphone using the Kirin 9000 processor immediately jumped to the top of a list of equipment led by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+.
“The Huawei Mate series is still one of the most anticipated smartphone ranges in Portugal […] we believe it will have strong adoption from our fans and consumers, ”says Tiago Flores in an interview with SAPO TEK, recalling the positive references the smartphone has received. The cameras, design and battery are some of the features highlighted by the company’s Consumer Area Commercial Director in Portugal.
The smartphone was announced on October 22nd and SAPO TEK had early access to information on the features of the new top of the range, which will also benefit from the improvements introduced in Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).
But not all countries will get the Mate 40 Pro now. “The distribution of the Mate 40 Pro in the different countries in Europe is linked to the sales forecast and the size of the country”, explains Tiago Flores, recalling that it is a series that has registered a very high acceptance among Portuguese consumers. This data, combined with a positive adhesion to Huawei mobile services, ended up giving Portugal a higher priority in Europe.
“In Portugal we have seen a very high adoption of our HMS smartphones, and we can also add that the Huawei P40 lite is one of the best-selling devices in Portugal, currently appearing in the list of the 10 best-selling smartphones in the segment in which it is inserted. “, says Tiago Flores. The sales manager says this adoption of HMS is also due to the growing communication of the Petal Search application, which allows you to find applications and information, including news, directly on the home screen.
The number of downloads of the application in Portugal is high, says Tiago Flores, who says that “in Portugal alone we have recorded more than 1 million Petal Search application downloads since its launch and we can say that almost 90% of the people who buy an HMS phone use this search engine to search for applications and other information ”.
Prepare for a different year with the impact of COVID-19
As for equipment sales with HMS, the head of Huawei Portugal says that “in the smartphone category 40% of sales are already in HMS devices”, and outlines a positive expectation for the total for the year 2020. “In cumulative terms, we are to perceive that revenues from smartphones and other categories, such as, for example, notebooks, where we already have more than 10% of the market share e Wearable, where we maintain a strong position, are higher than last year in the Portuguese market, ”he says.
Despite the challenges and uncertainty of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tiago Flores says the brand is working with partners to prepare for the upcoming period and Christmas. “We continue to focus on the consumer and prepare our Service Center to continue adapting its services in order to satisfy our customers. To this end, we keep active the customer support services, which we launched in March when the pandemic arrived in Portugal, such as contact via the Whatsapp application and the Home Pick up service for customers of damaged Huawei devices or in need of intervention, “he explains.
Huawei is also preparing a brand campaign in which “it will encompass the entire Huawei ecosystem with real benefits for the end consumer,” he says. A toothbrush and smart scale are among the first products to hit stores, but Huawei is preparing to add more gadgets from its consumer electronics partner ecosystem next year.
Huawei Mate 40 will arrive in stores tomorrow with prices starting from 1,249 euros and is on pre-order from November 28th, offering 6 months of subscription to the Huawei Music app, 50GB of free data on Huawei Cloud for 12 months and 6 months free months on the TomTom app.
