Sporting de Braga increased their league win streak to five this Sunday by triumphing (3-2) in the seventh round against Benfica, at the Estádio da Luz, in a match marked by Francisco Moura’s encore.

Iuri Medeiros opened the game in the 38th minute, leaving the honors of the match to Francisco Moura with goals at 50 and 63. Benfica would react in the 68th and 85th minutes, with an encore from Sefevoric.

Against Braga, Benfica presented a novelty in midfield this evening. Samaris, who had only played 12 minutes this season against Belenenses (2-0 win on matchday five), returned to the starting eleven, something that hadn’t happened since last season’s 29th round (2-0 defeat against Marittimo ).

For the third consecutive game, Jorge Jesus’ side have conceded three goals (Boavista, Rangers and Sporting de Braga), a clear sign that Benfica need to improve their defensive sector a lot. In fact, two of Benfica’s five substitutions were in this sector: Grimaldo in place of Nuno Tavares and Diogo Gonçalves in Gilberto.

With this result, Benfica are four points behind the leader Sporting (19) and on equal terms with Sporting de Braga in second place in the league.

Benfica also entered the game better and in the 10th minute could have opened the scoring when Vertonghen, with a shot from his back to the goal, forced goalkeeper Matheus to apply.

But after half an hour, Braga took over the operations and with the midfield line very close to the defensive, they did not give Benfica space to seek scoring situations.

A goal that would come out in the 38th minute, after a bad substitution by Otamendi, who “offered” the ball to Castro, who would have headed it over to Iuri Medeiros. The latter brought Samaris and Nuno Tavares to the front and, with his left, shot near the right post of Vlachodimos’ goal.

At half-time, Jorge Jesus left Samaris and Everton in the locker room and fielded Gabriel and Seferovic, knocking Waldschmidt down on the right wing, but the players had just positioned themselves and young Francisco Moura, 21, was already 2 – 0, in the 50th minute, after receiving the ball from Al Musrati, in a breaking pass, coming face to face with Vlachodimos.

Benfica rolled up their sleeves and started against Sporting de Braga, but found a lot of defensive discipline ahead of them. The inscriptions by Grimaldo, who won Nuno Tavares, and Taarabt, in place of Pizzi, gave greater clarity and speed to the “incarnati”, but, at 63 ‘, Vlachodimos stained the painting.

The goalkeeper was stuck on the ground outside the Benfica area and was unable to cut the ball from Francisco Moura’s head. In view of this passivity, in which Otamendi also did not react, the young player from Braga did not ask and scored twice in the match.

After that, Benfica pushed Sporting de Braga behind the midfield line and, in the 68th minute, Seferovic, a right-footed pass from Rafa, reduced the score. The Swiss, at 70, is close to 2-3, with a header, but Matheus is in the right place and defends himself.

This goal galvanized the reds and, in the 74th minute, Waldschmidt in front of Matheus did not have the coldness necessary to make the second of Benfica. In response, Galen, aged 76, was close to scoring fourth for Braga.

Five minutes from the end, Sefevorvic scored a brace after Grimaldo’s assistance and rekindled the hope of repeating the draw against Rangers in the Europa League (3-3), but the result will not change, despite at 90 + 5, the Swiss put the ball into Braga’s goal, but was in an irregular position, which is why Porto referee Artur Soares Dias disallowed the goal.
