PHUKET: The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has released a timeline of where an Indian man now confirmed as infected with COVID-19 traveled from October 28 to November 6, which included Phi Phi Island and Patong in Phuket , as well as taking flights and staying at a hotel in Chiang Mai.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported the Indian man, 37 (name not disclosed) as positive for COVID on Saturday (November 7).

She is now being treated at a public hospital in Krabi Town as her case is investigated, the CCSA said Saturday without disclosing further details.

Yesterday, the DDC reported that they were trying to track down a Thai with whom the Indian patient traveled to Chiang Mai.

They were also trying to track down an American friend with whom the Indian man had dined at a restaurant in Patong before flying to Chiang Mai.

According to the DDC, from 19 to 27 October, the Indian man worked in a restaurant and stayed with his wife and two other people on the island of Phi Phi.

On October 28, he took a ferry to the mainland of Krabi and stayed at his brother’s home located in Krabi Town.

On October 29, he drove his car to Phuket and stayed in a hotel in Patong. He also had dinner with an American friend in a restaurant opposite the hotel where he was staying.

On October 30, he went to Phuket International Airport where he took flight FD3167 (Thai Airasia) to Chiang Mai with his Thai friend. After arriving in Chiang Mai, the two took a taxi to the hotel in the city of Chiang Mai where they had booked to stay. While staying at the hotel, the two took a taxi to an entertainment venue, the DDC reported.

On October 31, the two rented a car and went to Sukothai. Along the way they stopped at a gas station. After arriving, they checked into a hotel and went to a Loy Krathong event.

On November 1, the two had breakfast at the hotel and later had lunch at an unknown location in Sukothai. The two then returned to Chiang Mai, where they visited a temple (temple name not given).

On November 2, the Indian started developing a cough. The two returned the rented car to a car rental agency at Chiang Mai International Airport before boarding the Thai AirAsia FD1968 flight back to Phuket. After landing in Phuket, the two headed to Patong, where they checked into a hotel (name not given).

On November 3, the two had breakfast at the hotel. The Indian man had lunch in a department store in Phuket Town, before returning to his brother’s home in Krabi Town.

On November 4, the Indian man went to a private hospital with his brother for medical examinations for his work permit application before boarding a ferry back to Phi Phi Island.

On November 5, the Indian man stayed home and the results of his medical tests confirmed that he was infected with COVID-19.

On November 6, the Indian man received treatment at the Krabi hospital, where he is now being treated.

The DDC confirmed that three members of Krabi’s family who had been in close contact with the Indian man tested negative for the virus.

Director of the Epidemiological Bureau Walairat Chaifu announced yesterday that the Thai and his American friend are among 79 people considered to be at high risk of contracting the virus.

Samples were collected from other people close to him, including those on the ferry to and from Phi Phi Island, as well as from passengers seated in the two rows in front of and behind him on flights between Phuket and Chiang Mai, added Dr. Walairat.

The department also considered 211 more people in a low-risk category and the director general of the disease control department, Opas Karnkawinpong, said he was ordered to stay home for two weeks to monitor his condition.

Dr Opas said the odds that the Indian had spread the coronavirus to other people were slim because only a small amount of the virus was found during tests conducted on him.
