The non-governmental organization United Doctors Venezuela reported this Sunday, November 8, that the number of health workers who have died of coronavirus in the country has already almost reached 250.
Four surgeons and a nurse were added to the list of fatal victims of medical personnel, two from the state of Táchira, one from Carabobo, one from Aragua and one from the capital district.
“Information is received on 5 deaths in the past 5 days, from health personnel with criteria for covid-19, bringing the figure to 247,” the NGO tweeted.
Venezuela continues with the highest death rate of health workers in Latin America, not only due to the virulence of covid-19, but also due to the lack of conditions in health centers. They have no disinfectant, soap or chlorine, there is no water and many times the power goes out.
It has no gloves or face masks, to say the least in the mechanisms of protection and biosecurity. Much less a decent wage with which to pay it yourself. Healthcare workers represent almost 30% of the official death toll offered by the Nicolás Maduro regime.
