Consumers: Uninsured: Without high reimbursements to health insurance

From 1 August, those who are not yet insured can take out mandatory health insurance without having to make high additional payments. This is underlined by the Bavarian Consumer Advice Center.

Not insured, beware! Anyone who takes out health insurance by 31 December at the latest will be revoked the previously customary additional claims. So far they have been collected for contributions accrued since the introduction of compulsory insurance. Those who took out insurance before August 1 are also exempt from reimbursement, according to consumer advocates.

Save thousands of euros

According to consumer advocates, requests for additional payment sometimes amounted to several thousand euros. This has discouraged many uninsured people. In June, the Bundestag passed the so-called law on the elimination of excessive social demands in health insurance contributions, on the basis of which the regulation is based.

Insurance is mandatory

During the 2007 health reform, compulsory health insurance was introduced for all previously legally insured persons, regardless of the reasons they lost insurance coverage. Since 2009 there has also been compulsory insurance for those who were previously privately insured. (dpa)
