We have good and bad news regarding the OnePlus smartwatch. The good news is that the rumors are more and more intense and it seems that the brand is really close to the launch of its first smartwatch.
The bad news is that it looks like OnePlus won’t be looking at Google’s WearOS for its first smartwatch software.
The OnePlus smartwatch will not feature WearOS
The well-known Max Jambor, known for correctly disclosing information about OnePlus equipment to us in the past, pointed out that the future OnePlus smartwatch will not bring Google’s WearOS as software.
It’s still a little weird. Also because OnePlus has already publicly admitted that it loves Google systems. In fact, even your OxyGenOS is seriously identical to Android Pure.
However, OnePlus’s structure has changed in recent times. I remember that co-founder Carl Pei left the company. He was one of the executives who admired Google’s system and always struggled to make OxygenOS always something no different from pure Android.
Don’t introduce Google WearOS until it’s a good idea
As much as I want to see Google bring a system that can directly compete with Apple’s WatchOS, I don’t think I’ve succeeded in recent years.
Google’s smartwatch software requires hardware to carry good specs and is still not the best battery management software.
In other words, maybe this option to bring your UI isn’t a bad idea. If Google continues to fail WearOS and shows no reason to improve, why invest in something that isn’t valued.
In conclusion, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me that OnePlus has bet on its User Interface, however I must admit that of all the smartwatches, only the Apple Watch has won me over with its software. Let’s hope OnePlus does something interesting.
