BioWare and EA have confirmed the rumors and officially announced the remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy. The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include all core single-player content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, as well as promotional weapons, armor and packs, all remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD. It will be available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in spring 2021, with future compatibility and further improvements on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The developers’ aim was not to reinvent or rethink the original games, “but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in an optimal presentation,” writes Casey Hudson (General Manager of BioWare) . The remaster images or videos have not been released.
Work has also begun on a new game in the Mass Effect universe. Casey Hudson: “At the same time, a team of veterans is working hard here at BioWare to bring the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe to life. We are in the early stages of the project we can’t say more, but we can’t wait to share our vision for the next trip to share with you guys “.
Mass Effect was released in November 2007 for PC and Xbox 360. The PS3 version came a year later. Mass Effect 2 followed in January 2010 for PC and Xbox 360 and offered more action elements at the expense of some RPG parts. The PS3 was shipped again a year later. The third and final part of the Reaper trilogy was released in March 2012 and was heavily criticized at the time for the conclusion of the story. Jörg wrote about the last part of the test: “fun, action packed, sobering – this is the logical conclusion to a saga, the quality of which sank into every part.
