Content creators on the Internet will now be able to accept XRP token payments directly from their users.
Content overturning has become possible thanks to Coil, born from an idea of Stefan Thomas, the former CTO of Ripple Labs. The San Francisco company has launched the beta version of its browser extension app with the same name, which allows users to suggest content creators directly via XRP token. While the concept is probably borrowed from Changetip, a now deceased bitcoin app, Coil has somehow demonstrated its advancement by placing itself as an alternative to today's ad-supported web.
"For decades, people have been discussing the potential of micropayments to support creators of content that would move us away from the publicized web," Thomas said. "Others have created subscription services that group content. But micropayments and subscriptions have always been built as closed systems, which fail to capture the huge variety of content on the web."
Coil is actually the first when it comes to paying websites using web monetization, an Interlingger-based standard that allows browsers to pay websites. To achieve this, Coil will be compatible with some of the biggest names in the web industry, including YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitch, Internet Archive and Beat, for beginners.
The launch of Coil offers many possibilities for future adoption, especially in the case of content based on abbon catkin. Discussions on various online forums are full of references to websites that offer content for monthly subscriptions. These subscriptions allow users to access unlimited content on the site. However, the fact remains that users rarely use the whole package. The only solution proposed to tackle the problem is pay per view.
Coil offers a case of use. The extension of the browser could promise to free Web content for XRP, be it text, video, audio or otherwise.
"Think of Spotify, think of Uber, think of ads on the Web – or no more ads on the Web", a Redditor commented referring to the additional features of Coil, which include the exclusion of paywalls and the display of minor announcements. "This is just the beginning of the Internet of Value! COIL is great, COIL is huge – Coil deserves all the attention we're doing in Ripple!"
Bobina could block the horns with Brave on the micro- payments. This is not an extension, but a complete Web browser that somehow offers the same services as Coil through BAT tokens. Brave already has a user base of over 4 million active people. The browser also provides privacy and ad blocking to increase its attractiveness towards an average encrypted user. The project team plans to attract over 5 million users by the end of this year.
The cryptography market is still young and there is room for innovation for each project. The reel, despite its celebratory launch, could be updated with future updates. So far, the micropayment browser app could at least increase the bullish potential of the XRP tokens, which are already rising high in a phase of strong buying sentiment.
