Rio Grande do Norte has 11 confirmed cases of pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (SIM-P), which is associated with covid-19 and affects children and adolescents. As of November 4, 23 cases had been reported, 11 confirmed and 12 discarded.
Cases have been confirmed in the municipalities of Mossoró (3), Natal (3), São Gonçalo do Amarante (2), Apodi (1), Nísia Floresta (1) and Touros (1) and all patients have already been discharged.
The discards were diagnosed as chikungunya, zika virus and dengue. Of these, 11 patients were discharged and one died.
According to the bulletin, the highest incidence of SIM-P occurs in males – nine cases – and in the age group 5 to 9 – with four cases. Regarding signs and symptoms, the most frequent were: abdominal pain, shortness of breath (dyspnoea), edema of the hands and feet and / or edema of the face and abdomen and / or swelling around the body (anasarca), saturation less than 95% oxygen, nausea / vomiting, decreased urine volume (oliguria), skin discolouration and diarrhea.
