During the annual Xiaomi MiDC conference underway in Beijing, the Chinese giant showed a new photographic technology that impressed everyone.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Technology for Life” and this new telescopic lens is sure to help improve the lives of many users.
With a much wider aperture, Xiaomi promises to achieve improvements in the order of 300% in light exposure and a 20% increase in the clarity of photographs.
In addition to ensuring substantial improvements in the quality of night shots, it will also be crucial in achieving the best possible result when capturing portraits.
Xiaomi’s retractable mechanism promises a zoom never seen before on smartphones
This telescopic lens from the one presented by Xiaomi has a retractable mechanism, identical to what we are used to seeing in many traditional compact cameras.
In addition to allowing much greater exposure to light, it will also allow for variable optical zooms, exponentially improving the quality of photographs.
Usually, telephoto lenses in smartphones have a fixed zoom, due to the obvious physical limitations. That is, the optical zoom is fixed at a specific value, with all the variations obtained through the manipulation of images carried out by the smartphone software.
In this case it will be possible to ensure that all the values between “point A and point B” offer a true optical zoom, thanks to the retractable mechanism of the new lens.
Mi 11 will not be the first smartphone to debut this lens
As much as we would like to see the Xiaomi Mi 11 arrive with this technology already, this seems to be practically impossible.
The lens presented by Xiaomi is still a prototype in development and it will probably take many months before it is ready to be integrated into a smartphone.
However, the possibilities offered by this technology are incredible. Nowadays, we see reaching the smartphone market with up to 5 cameras on the rear panel.
Xiaomi’s new lens could put an end to this exaggeration, thanks to the versatility it can offer to the user.
Offering a wide aperture, variable zoom and variable focus area, you don’t need to have multiple lenses on your smartphone.
