Today Square Enix shared financial results for the past six months through September 30, 2020. As part of this report, the company noted that there was an “impact on the development timing of our new titles due to the work of subcontractors. we assume for part of our development efforts’, which was caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, the company is reviewing its development roadmap with some games being postponed to fiscal year 2022, 2023, or beyond. However, the late titles remain unknown. Right now, Square Enix has People Can Fly’s Outriders cooperative RPG, due out on February 2, 2021, and NieR Replicant will arrive on April 23.

On top of that, Square Enix has Project Athia and Final Fantasy 16, both of which are exclusive to the timed PS5 console with no release dates. Square Enix is likely to refer to at least some of these titles, although for now they would naturally be internal delays with no public dates.
The next-generation update for Marvel’s Avengers was previously delayed, with the development team citing the need to fix bugs and further refine the experience.
