If you listen closely, you can hear the cheer of X10 users around the world celebrating their upcoming update to Android 2.1. This 2.1 update, scheduled to start on Sunday in the Nordic countries, will circulate around the world, one market at a time in the coming months.
Even though the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 didn’t perform as well as we hoped, we were optimistic that its flaws would be fixed with updates, but unfortunately, the x10 family has been stuck on Android 1.6 since its launch in August. The hardware inside the Xperia X10 isn’t state of the art, but it certainly isn’t outdated at all. Whatever the reason Sony Ericsson had to launch the X10 with an outdated operating system remains a mystery to us. I can say with some confidence that the X10 would have been better received if it had been loaded with Android 2.1. We hope that an Eclair is all the X10 needed to reach its full potential.

The Xperia X10 will receive the following improvements:
- HD video recording with continuous autofocus.
- A new backup and resotre application, with extended content backup.
- Social address book that syncs contact pictures from Facebook and alerts you when your friends are online.
Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro will receive the following improvements:
- Enhanced Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more.
- A new backup and resotre application, with extended content backup.
- Automatic synchronization of contact pictures between Facebook and the address book.
- Improved handling of images, audio, text and numbers in messages.
