PlayStation Portugal has provided us with a PS5 unit in advance for experimentation, accompanied by one of the main titles of the launch, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which joins Astro’s Playroom, a game previously installed on the console and which acts as a technical demo dedicated to demonstrating what the machine, and especially the new DualSense controller, has to offer.
We merged the two games, tested PS4 titles on PS5, seamlessly watched one of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe’s core assets via a blu-ray player, tested the loading speed, the ease of use of the console menus and, of course, the impact that its bold design represents in living rooms. The judgment of the Insomniac game can be verified in our analysis, we will also have time to talk about the content of Astro’s Playroom, for now let’s focus on what the PS5 hides inside and what it is capable of doing.
PlayStation 5 will be available in Portugal from November 19 in two versions, one normal (499 euros) and the other without Blu-ray player (399 euros). There are no differences in specifications between them, one is dedicated to those who have definitely embraced the digital world, while another serves those who do not give up the physical format to adorn the shelves with their favorite games, thanks to the optical drive prepared for the Ultra HD Blu-ray up to 100GB.
Both versions have 825GB of space, which after installing the operating system and its native applications, translates to 667.2GB available for games, multimedia apps, screenshots, videos, etc. Sony has already introduced some of the main applications that will be available on PS5, following a significant change in the interface. We will talk about these options and show you the menus in detail for now, to say that this is an important change of “face”, but that will not alienate those used to the classic navigation of the latest PlayStation consoles. First, it’s strange, but it quickly gets to the heart of it.

The CPU represents a significant leap over what we have on the current PS4, with a custom 8-color, 16-thread AMD Zen 2 running at 3.5GHz, accompanied by a 10.28 teraflops AMD Radeon RDNA 2 architecture CPU and technology. Ray Tracking up to 2.23 GHz. The 16GB / 256-bit GDDR6 memory is also a significant leap, but it’s the proprietary SSD that makes the real difference to the console, being one of the more distinctly next generation.
The disc represents a significant leap in this generation, and the PlayStation 5 in particular, as it represents a direct improvement in the quality of life. When the game left the cartridges to embrace the CD and later the DVD and Blu-ray, it gained a lot, but the loading time, which is the distance between our decision to play and the moment we actually started playing, fired. Technology has allowed us to reduce this space, but at the same time the increase in the quality and quantity of the assets used has prevented us from feeling concrete progress.
It is impressive how quickly we managed to jump from the PS5 start menu within Manhattan from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, within seconds we are playing, and although this does not represent a new sensory stimulus or a guarantee of l immersion, as in FPS or resolution expansion, is a noticeable and immediate improvement of the overall experience, which makes the loading time between game segments residual.
The loading speed is impressive, as is the amount of assets that are generated simultaneously and at a considerable distance, making us feel inside more lively worlds. At one point I thought: “Incredible, it started like this, imagine what it will be like in 3-4 years when the hardware” matures “and the experience of the manufacturers and the tuning of the game engines will increase. immediately summarize the games, a feature that also represents an automatic improvement of the experience, but that I managed to “jam” accidentally, activating the accessibility, color and mainly voice options. Listening to the console suddenly talking to me was so chilling and unexpected as well as fun, i just silenced with a reboot.
The fluidity of the gameplay is equated with the fidelity and purity of the reflections in the gameplay that we had access to. This reminds me of one of the most pertinent caveats if you are preparing to buy a next generation console: ‘Time to upgrade home televisions‘. Updated versions of Gen-8 consoles, such as the PS4 Pro, had repeated this, but while they went to great lengths to increase the resolution by upscaling, they always left a foot in 1080, a standard imposed by the technical limitations of the original models. Well, we are finally in the definitive era of 4K and 60fps performance, it is important that the TV that will receive the console is ready to enjoy the full experience. Here it is important to keep in mind that the PS5 does not support 1440p resolution which is very popular on gaming monitors, what the console does is use 1080p and stretch it up to 1440p.
Also on the screens you choose to pair with your PlayStation 5, remember that it features support for 4K 120Hz, intended for TVs with HDMI 2.1 to allow us to access an even higher level of color gamut. There are some relatively current models capable of reaching 1080p 120Hz, with rarer cases where the units include a 2.1 input. If you already have a 4k TV you shouldn’t worry too much, in case you decide to buy a new TV it is imperative that you have this detail in mind.
Keep it going…
